Day 10 – Feb 9 Sunday–Day 2 of the Hop On Hop Off Tour of Auckland
After Church we headed over on the ferry to continue the second half of out Hop On Hop Off tour – it just couldn’t be done in one day. We joined the bus from the same spot as yesterday, and began the circuit. At one point, the bus route was around the bay, directly opposite Devonport, and we got this view of our temporary home. The hill on the left is Victoria Peak (our rental is at the foot of this hill) and the hill on the right is North Head. The ferry landing is at the foot of Victoria, just to the left.
Our first stop today was the Aquarium – which was constructed in such a manner that you passed through a glass tunnel with the fish surrounding you, as opposed to the normal aquarium tanks. Quite impressive to see sharks and rays swimming at and over you!
The aquarium also has a very large penguin exhibit – New Zealand is quite active in Antarctic exploration and there was quite an exhibit of Antarctic explorer cabins – unfortunately too dark to photograph.
Rejoining the bus, we passed New Zealand’s National Stadium, home of the world famous “All Blacks” rugby team – often world champions of rugby.
We stayed on the bus to near the end, jumping off early at Queen St. – which we knew was the street our Burger King was on. Whoppers with fries two days in a row!
We hopped on the ferry to head home – this is a picture of the ferry building on the Auckland side.
