Day 12-13
Two more peaceful, restful days at sea, preparing for Rio.
When we planned this trip I made two promises to Sally (among many): One that I would go dancing with her. Many of you know that I do not dance and other than some feeble attempts when we were dating (probably alcohol assisted) I just have never danced. However, a promise is a promise, so on every sea day, dance lessons are held, and we attend. I have learned why I don’t dance – I am incapable of hearing beats and translating them into specific movements of my feet. But I am persisting – moving from the Waltz to the Fox Trot to the Tango. Next comes “Swing”. I keep hoping they will hit on one that I am able to master, but no luck yet. I carry on –please have sympathy for Sally’s toes.
The second promise was that she would not have to do laundry on the trip. I am doing much better with this promise, having mastered the Laundromat.

Those who have been on cruises probably remember “towel art”. In the evening, when the room steward has turned down the bed – he will fold a towel into the shape of some animal – can you identify these?

Our entertainment tonight was Doc Severinsen – who had been the band leader on the Tonight Show when Johnny Carson was the host. He has formed a new band called the San Miguel Five, specializing in music with a Spanish flair – which emphasizes his trumpet abilities – an excellent show. How old is he – 85?
